What will you learn?
We have broken this course into four chapters. These are:
- WP Engine Admin User Portal: In this chapter, you will get introduced to WP Engine’s User Portal. You will learn how to access the features and tools inside the WP Engine portal. You will also get introduced to Environments in WP Engine under this section.
- Setting Up Sites in WP Engine: This section will look at how we can add sites to our WP Engine hosting plan. You also get to learn how to add users to WP Engine.
- WP Local and WP Engine: At MRKWP, we use WP Local to set up the local WordPress development environment. In this chapter, you will learn how to pull down a site from WP Engine to your computer with WP Local. We will also look at how you can push changes from the local site/environment to the WP Engine server.
- Site Maintenance: WordPress sites need to be well maintained from time to time. This chapter will discuss security issues related to WordPress. You will learn how to navigate around site vulnerabilities with the help of WP Engine’s tools. Last but not least, we will look at how you can contact the WP Engine support team for further assistance in case of any problems.

To undertake this course, you will need to have the following.

Hosting Plan with WP Engine
WP Engine is a hosting company that offers WordPress-managed hosting. It guarantees fast site speeds, reliability and website security.
To date, WP Engine hosts more than 1.5M websites.
Since we will be looking at setting up and managing websites using WP Engine’s tools, you will need a hosting plan with the platform.

Local
Local enables you to set up a local WordPress development environment. With this tool, you can connect your website hosted via WP Engine to your local development environment.
Local enables you to pull down your site from the server to your local environment and vice versa. You can also push files from your local environment to the WP Engine server.

WP Engine Hosting Plans
WP Engine offers mainly three types of Hosting Solutions via its platform. These are
- Managed WordPress – For the common WordPress sites.
- eCommerce Solutions – Customised for WooCommerce sites.
- Advanced Solutions – Enterprise solutions with Advanced security.
Managed WordPress and eCommerce hosting solutions
Both managed WordPress and eCommerce hosting solutions come with five plans. These are;
- Startup Plan
- Professional Plan

Four main features vary among these plans.
Depending on your plan choice, four features will range from one plan to another. These are;
- Sites included in the plan: These are the number of sites you can add/have under a given hosting plan.
- Visits Per Month: Total number of visits to all sites within that given plan.
- Local Storage: Total storage capacity allocated to your site(s) under a given plan. This storage includes storage for each site’s three environments. That is, production, staging and development.
- Bandwidth per month: Total amount of data transferred between site(s) under that plan.
Note
The billing of these features is across all sites you have included under that given plan.
